Healing Shin Splints Through Rest

!±8± Healing Shin Splints Through Rest

Rest is the most common treatment for whatever ailments and injuries people have. That is the reason rest is the first and primary method in treating shin splints. Shin splint is an injury caused by overstressed muscles on the front leg below the knee that could result to swelling and inflammation of the front leg. Having shin splint will make usual activity such as walking, jogging or jumping painful.

Rest for shin splints doesn't necessary mean to stop the activity that you are doing. Stopping workouts will not be best in treating shin splint but could make matters worst. Usually, people think that they are completely healed and that they are no longer prone to shin splint after resting and stopping the activity for 2-3 weeks. This is a misconception because people are more prone to shin splint when they start the activity again like the way they were doing it before.

For example, you are used to working out for at least an hour a day. After resting and stopping the workout for 2-3 weeks because of shin splint, you start working out again for an hour. That will make you prone to shin splint again because you are stressing your muscles, tissues and tendons. You just have to limit and gradually increase the workout especially if you have not been doing it for weeks. You may try working out for at least 20 minutes for the first day of your workout and gradually increase the minutes if you are not feeling any pain.

Rest will heal shin splint but it will still be upon how you will be working out again after the rest that will matter. Even if you had a good rest, if you will engage in strenuous and in vigorous activity you will still be prone to shin splint. Rest and gradual adaptation to the activity once you are doing it will make you be healthy again.
